From honored officer, to dirty cop, see how Anthony Bryant found God after being on both sides of the law. Read Transcript

(knocking)

- [Gordon] A decorated officer --

- [Anthony] That's theknock of law enforcement.

- [Gordon] Who was playingboth sides of the law.

- [Anthony] They said, "Wehave warrant for your arrest."

- [Gordon] Why this crookedcop landed behind bars.

- You begin to justifythings within your mind.

- And how he came clean.

That and more on today's700 Club Interactive.

Well welcome to the show.

The word "healing" applies to many things.

It can be a restoration of health,

relief from emotional distress,

or even growth or maturity in a situation.

- Well no matter whereyou need healing today,

whether you need a physical healing

or you need a relationship fixed,

here's how you can findhealing in The Secret Place.

- We are a culture thatis addicted to activity

and we're addicted to our busyness

because it has a numbing effect

on our deeper, gnawing questions and pain.

And so I think we're afraid of silence

so we fill our life with busyness.

It takes more courage to actually rest

and get yourself in a place of quietness

than it does to remain constantly busy.

It's in that place that weactually get to hear a voice

that is still and is small.

That's how it's been in my life.

The busier I get, evendoing things for God,

the less peace is operating in my life

and there's this sense that I'm striving

and I've got to keep the ball rolling,

I've got to keep the gears grinding

to have a sense of worth and productivity.

- Because it is scary in the silence.

All your stuff comes out,

all your shame comes out, all your worry,

all the realities thatyou've been boxing up

now become open and everything

is brought to light in His presence.

- When you open up to Godeverything that hinders you

in every part of your life isavailable for God to touch,

and manage, and talk to you about.

And so that's part of the scary thing.

Is there something youdon't want Him to touch

that's so sensitive?

But He is trustworthy, and if you have a moment

where you're feeling likeyou want to avoid Him,

you don't want Him to go inthat particular direction,

ask Him for confidence, ask Him.

Say, "Lord, I don't wanna go there,

"will You please make me willing?

"Draw me in."

- But we need to getconnected to those feelings,

those fears, those insecurities,

and not run from them, but run to them

and then let Holy Spirit comeand speak to us in that place.

And He exposes the lie every time

and He shows us the truth.

- So many times people turnaway from Him instead of to Him

because He's beenmisrepresented in their lives,

but He wants to revealHimself for who He truly is

and that He is for us.

- The secret place is a placewhere God can do surgery

because you're quietenough and still enough

for Him to do it and notget distracted by something.

He is a living spirit dwelling inside you

looking for the opportunityto heal every broken wound,

broken and wounded part of your life.

It says, He binds up the brokenhearted.

Give Him the opportunity tobind up your broken heart.

- Some of my most profound moments

in the secret place took so much trust,

it was like a boatloadof trust to step in.

It's this quiet moment in my house

and I'm just sitting there,

and then you get to the edgeand there's this feeling

of like, oh, I need to eitherstep into this or back up,

and I chose to step inand the perfect revelation

of what I really neededdidn't come from me.

I didn't know what I needed.

God stepped into that and Holy Spirit

just started putting His finger on things

that I needed and I didn't even know.

And He just broughthealing to those things.

He brought profound peacewhere I just had so much chaos.

- He is in the process, Hewants to walk that path with us.

It's not that we walk that path

and now we're good enough to come to Him

and now we can have a relationship.

He says, "Come in your mess,

come in your most pain,

even come with your questions,

come with the thingsyou question about Me."

He's not afraid of those questions.

- It's a short life we live,

let's not keep runningaround the mountain of pain,

and addiction, and brokenness.

Let's run to the place of pain

and find that Jesus iswaiting there for us.

I think part of thisrestoration of a prayer life

and a secret place with God

is that we're gonna see massive emotional

and soul healing begin to take place.

Jesus sent the HolySpirit to do two things,

to comfort us, and to teachus and lead us into all truth,

so He's a comforter.

We live in a comfortless society,

and over-medicated, over-stimulated,comfortless society,

and the Father sent us thehealer, He sent us the comforter.

And so if people wouldjust begin to realize

that He's not coming to accuse you,

He's not coming to remind you

of where you failed here, here, and here,

He's coming to comfort you.

He's coming to put His handson your heart to heal you,

to breathe identity into you,

to tell you who you really are.

You're not defined by yoursin and your brokenness,

you're defined by His love.

I think that people will besurprised at what they find

if they are willing toenter into the secret place,

they're gonna be surprised to find

overwhelming love and acceptance.

- Alright, Terry, I'll ask you,

where do you go withthese sorts of issues,

whether it's you don't have peace,

or you're having conflict,or you need physical healing?

- Well, I have a giant signin my family room that says,

"Be still and know that I am God,"

because I think in those moments where

whether you're fearful of something

that's happening to you physically,

or some fear within your heart

that maybe you haven't dealt with,

you need to heart the voice of God.

Not others tell you who they think He is,

not what life has told you about Him

because the enemy of God is the accuser,

not just of the brethren, but of the Father.

- Yes.

- So you need to hear,

you need to give God afair trial, Mr. Lawyer.

(laughing)

- God caused this, orwhy didn't God intervene,

all of those why questionsthat are very argumentative.

- And those why questions, can I just say, are legit

when you've gone through painful things

because where were you, God.

If I'm Your child and I'm hurting--

But, I think in those places,God can take those questions,

He's got the answers,he sends the comforter.

And he told his disciples,

don't leave this room 'til he comes,

'cause out there is the world

and you're gonna needhim when you exit here.

- Yeah, Terry.

- Yeah, Terry, yes.

(laughing)

- For me, one of the keys is learning

that I can pour out mycomplaint before Him,

I found that in Psalms.

A dear mentor of minefrom India pointed it out

when I was having difficulty,

and I'd gotten into this religious mindset

that God doesn't wannahear your complaints.

- Or will be offended.

- And then to read, "I pouredout my complaint before you,"

it was such a release.

Okay, here Daddy, I've got some problems,

I've got some issues, and you pour it out

and you realize He'sable to take all of that.

- Actually one of the greatthings about pouring it out,

you heard a couple of comments

as we listened to that piece of,

I came before the Lordand it was at that moment

where I could touch thoseplaces that were hurting,

or I could back away from them.

But when you go in, it'slike you open the reality

of truth to those places that hurt.

It's just a fresh beginning.

- You open up into Heaven, and Heaven comes within you

and you realize all of these things

are just limiting your access to God.

As long as you've got thatwhy recurring question

or that hurt, it's goingto limit God's access.

He wants you to be healed,He wants you to be peaceful,

He wants you to have righteousness,

peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

- And He wants you to be real with Him.

- And not a fake, yeah,

not a fake, "I'm feeling great today."

Pour out your complaint, leaveit with Him, and then yay.

- We wanna pray for you right now

because we recognize that many of you

are in these places ofneeding to hear from the Lord,

it might be physical healing,it might be relational,

maybe you've got addiction issues

and there's some shame involved.

Whatever it is, we wanna pray for you,

and we've received some requests

from some of you on our Facebook page.

This is Barbara who writes,

And then Anthony says,

- And Lynette writes in,

And Rob says,

Well let's go into prayer,

and when it comes to prayerfor physical healing,

I believe in elders, I believe in oil,

I believe in Jericho shouts,

let's get a whole group of people praying.

And the Bible says,

"When two or more agree touching anything

"it shall be done for themby my Father in Heaven."

These are the words of Jesus.

So let's do that right now,

let's create a great circle of prayer,

let's put God in the center of it,

let's look to Him and realize He is

the answer to every human need.

Lord, we lift these needs to You

and whether it's a childwith down syndrome,

whether it's sexual sin,

whether it's anxiety, depression,

problems with glands,problems with bodies,

Lord God, you are the answer.

And so we come to you,

and, Lord, we pour outour problems before You

for we know that You are the solution.

We leave them at the footof the cross and we say,

Lord, I can't do this, but Youcan, and You have proven it.

You died for me.

Your stripes heal every cell in my body,

every thought in my brain,

every wound in my heart.

And the resurrection powerthat raised You from the dead

is here with me now.

So in the name of Jesus, Ideclare over myself, be healed.

Mind, be calm and be peaceful,

heart, be healed.

And I come to You in this place of prayer,

I come to You and ask boldly,Lord, give the answer today.

Terry--

- Somebody, you have had

a bad diagnosis about your pancreas.

God is healing you, just receive that today,

let all of that anxiety and that fear,

the tears that have spilled, let it all go right now.

Lift your hands up andgive a Jericho shout,

you've been set free.

- I just feel this is a broad word

for anyone with trauma related fear,

and we just speak deliverance over you.

Deliverance over the memory,

deliverance over thereaction to the memory,

and we just ask that the peace of God,

which passes all understanding,

will come into your heart and mind now.

Fear causes torment, He doesn't want you

to be tormented anymore.

Be free from that from this day forward.

In Jesus' name, let there be peace and joy

within your innermost being flowing out.

Let it be a river of lifespringing up new within you now.

- And I feel like this is abroad word for many as well,

that you have done some things,

even as one of the prayer requests today,

that makes you feel likeyou've just ruined it all.

It's, in your mind,irredeemable, irretrievable,

in some ways even, inyour mind, unforgivable.

Today is a new beginning for you,

no turning back, no looking back.

Only today, with your eyeson Jesus, start fresh.

He's the redeemer, he's come to redeem

what the enemy has stolen from you.

In Jesus' name.

- Lord, we thank You for the answers

that You always give us.

We thank You for it in Jesus' name.

Amen and amen.

If you have been touched byGod, share your good report,

let us know, 1-80-700-7000.

And make sure to join us all this week

as our Secret Place series continues.

Each day we'll post thesevideos on our Facebook page,

so take a minute and sharethem with your friends.

Well coming up,

a cop who was on thewrong end of a drug sting.

- [Anthony] Very humiliating that you go

from one extreme, to the next extreme.

It was the beginning of the fall for me.

- Find out what happens whenthe law came looking for him.

You don't wanna miss it, right after this.

(upbeat music)

When officer Anthony Bryantwasn't busting bad guys,

he was helping them run drugs across town.

After several years on the force,

Anthony was being hunted by the FBI.

- And I heard this knock on the door.

(knocking)

That's the knock of law enforcement.

And they said, "We have awarrant for your arrest."

- [Narrator] AnthonyBryant never thought much

about growing up in theprojects of Savannah, Georgia

or that his family was poor.

His parents were devout Christians

who took their eight childrento church every week.

They worked hard to make surethey had enough to get by.

Then in high school, Anthonysaw another side of life.

- When I began wanting to date girls

that were not from the project area,

I began to notice that, hey,

there's a big, major difference.

I gotta do better.

- [Narrator] He worked hard in school

hoping it would open doors to success.

Then in his Senior year,

he got his girlfriendpregnant and married her.

Needing a job, he followedhis older brother's example

and enlisted in the Army.

He earned a position of trust

handling highly classified information.

It was a boost to hisself-confidence and his ego.

- I took great pride in that uniform.

Kept it in pristine condition.

That power came in and it was just unreal.

- [Narrator] Eight years laterhe traded in his fatigues

for a new uniform withthe police department

in Chatham County, Georgia,

again, following in hisbrother's footsteps.

But soon his brother and his family

were the last people on his mind.

- Failure definitely wasn't an option.

My focus is my job, going tothe next level professionally,

and just being self-absorbed with Anthony.

- [Narrator] Anthony becamean exemplary officer.

With his success camerespect, accolades and pride.

But his focus onreputation came at a price

as his personal life began to suffer.

- I was still a good provider,but just not a good husband.

As you build up power, you build up ego.

You build up ego, you buildup self-reliance on you.

- [Narrator] His self-absorptionled to having affairs

and living a double life.

- It was all appearances.

You played the part, you showup for work, you do your job,

and if you do it really well then

no one is gonna question at all.

- [Narrator] Sometimelater his older brother

had a proposition to escortsome drug runners through town.

But Anthony never worriedabout getting caught

because, in his mind, he was untouchable.

- You have that Superman complex.

Can't happen to you,and you begin to justify

things within your mind.

I looked up to him and felt atype of allegiance towards him

to say, okay, I'll do it.

- [Reporter] 30 year oldAnthony Bryant is admitting

that he attempted to aid and abet

the distribution of cocaine.

- [Anthony] Very humiliating,it's just indescribable

to know that you go from oneextreme, the the next extreme.

It was the beginning of the fall for me.

- [Narrator] Awaiting sentencing,

Anthony decided to givehis life to Christ,

but on one condition.

- Now I'm gonna try this Godthat my mom raised me in.

Okay, God, I have my life to you,

now don't allow me to go to prison.

- [Narrator] Two months laterhe was sitting in his cell

with a 12-year prison sentence,

but Anthony couldn't understand why.

- God, You did not hear anything I said.

My kids are gonna growup without their dad,

my wife at that time, withina year she filed for divorce.

So I'm like, no,

I'm done, cashin' out.

Suicide, suicide.

- [Narrator] For weeks he horded aspirin

form the infirmary and other inmates.

- I was just gonna take 'em all,

and just go to sleepand never wake up again.

That was my plan.

I heard this voice.

The voice said, "Look under the mattress."

And I pulled up the mattressand I saw this Bible.

Took me to that scripturewhere it talks about

better at the ending of athing than the beginning.

- [Narrator] Finally he understood

that it wasn't all about him.

- I said, "God, I've triedit my way and I failed."

And I flushed all thosepills down the toilet

and I can focus on doingwhat You need me to do

while I'm in here.

- [Narrator] Anthony spentthe rest of time in prison

studying scripture, leading prayer groups,

and sharing his testimony.

Since his release in 2008, he'scontinued to pursue the Lord

and gives back to his community.

- I teach ethics andresponsibility classes

to law enforcement,

and through that I usemy personal testimony.

That moment, when I gave my life to Him,

it was a true transformation.

God began to start workingin my life even then.

I can see where now God has placed me

on even a higher platform,

but the difference now is with Him

I know how to exercise humility.

God has definitely donea mighty work in my life

and I'm grateful.

- And He'll do thatmighty work for you too.

Now let's look atAnthony's jailhouse prayer

and he's expecting sort of a tit for tat,

he's trying to make a bargain with God,

and he's saying, okay,I'll do it Your way.

I'll do it the way mom raisedme and I'll do it Your way,

but that means that You gotta make sure

my children grow up with their daddy

and You gotta make sureI don't go to jail.

It doesn't work that wayand it never works that way,

you don't make bargains with God.

Here's the plan, God hasmade a bargain with you,

and here's His bargain;

if you take Me, I'll forgive

everything you've ever done wrong,

I'll regenerate you fromyour innermost being,

I'll make sure that you'rewith me for all eternity.

That's His bargain, andit's a free bargain.

To get it all you haveto do is ask for it.

But here's another part of that bargain,

Jesus says, "In this world, you will have trouble."

Then he adds, "But be of good cheer,

for I have overcome the world."

It's in our trouble that we cry out to Him

not realizing the bargain'salready been made,

He's already guaranteed our eternity.

And them more than that,He's guaranteed that

we'll have righteousness, peace and joy

wherever we are on earth.

He wants to bring that Heaven to you

and to your heart right now,

and it's not a bargain that we make

as if somehow we're trading,

it's a bargain He's already made.

If you want this bargain,

if you want that changein your innermost being

to realize Heaven is within you

and Heaven is trying to break into

that innermost part and change you,

if you want that bow your head with me.

Let's pray a very simple prayerand let God do all the rest.

Pray with me.

Jesus, that's right, sayhis name, say it out loud.

Jesus, I want to do business with you,

and I mean business.

And, Jesus, here's what I want.

I want you to forgive me of all

the things that I've done wrong.

I want this righteousness, peace and joy that I hear about,

I want that.

And, Jesus, if you'll give this to me,

if you'll show up for me,

I promise that I will followyou all the days of my life.

Hear my prayer, come into my heart,

for I ask it in Jesus' name.

Father, for those who justprayed, fill them with Your love.

Fill them with the peace thatpasses all understanding.

Let them know that theirprayer has been heard

and has been answered today.

Do it, Lord, for we askit all in Jesus' name.

Amen.

If you prayed with me there's

one more thing I want you to do,

I want you to get a free packet,

it's called A New Day,and there's a CD teaching,

how do you live the Christianlife, what do you do now.

There's also a bookletfilled with Bible verses.

It's all free, all youhave to do is call us.

1-800-700-7000.

Terry.

- Well, when Josue and Gadillo arrived

at an orphanage in Mexico,

all the brothers had were each other.

Today they're as close as ever, but they also have friends,

they play sports, andthey get plenty to eat

thanks to viewers like you.

- [Narrator] When I firstmet Josue and Gadillo

I quickly realized they wereboth brothers and best friends.

They've taken care of each other

since they came to thischildren's home in Mexico.

- When we got here all of a sudden

I had toys and friends to play with.

Dad brought us here.

My brother helps me with my homework,

and I help him with his math.

- Everyone gets a long really well.

We like to play soccer and hide and seek.

- We care for childrenthat have suffered abuse,

have been abandoned, or are orphans.

With 40 children, weserve 160 meals each day.

It is a daily struggle.

- [Narrator] That's whyCBN's Orphan's Promise

gave the children 100 chickens.

Josue and Gadillo bothstepped up and took on

the responsibility oftaking care of the chickens,

and they're doing a great job.

- My brother taught me how to feed

and carry the chickenswithout hurting them.

I really like that.

- Every day, these chickens are laying

between 60 and 70 eggs.

That's more than enoughfor all of the kids here,

and the extra eggs getsold in a local market.

The brothers invited me into the corral

to show me how they feed the chickens.

Next up, egg hunt.

Finding them is a serioustask for the kids.

They count them all and thentake them to the kitchen.

When the meal was ready, Josue and Gadillo

wanted a ride to the cafeteria.

- I feel happy that my friends

are eating the eggs that we find.

They are delicious.

- [Narrator] With all the added protein,

these guys are growingup to be big and strong.

And thanks to CBN partners,

the kids here are receivingmore than a good meal.

- This project is a blessing.

Children get involved taking care of them.

They learn the value of work

and they get to eat somethingnatural and healthy.

- I am happy that you came to visit us.

Thank you.

(laughing)
