- [Announcer] This is CBN Newswatch.

- Thanks for joining us forthis edition of CBN Newswatch.

I'm Mark Martin.

For the first time, PresidentTrump gave his State

of the Union address to apolitically divided Congress.

He faced a House ofRepresentatives led by Democrats

who have recently pushedfor late term abortions

while the Commander inChief called out lawmakers

to protect babies.

He took advantage of recent headlines

to fight for the unborn,

calling on Congress to pass legislation

to prohibit late term abortions.

- Lawmakers in New Yorkcheered with delight

upon the passage oflegislation that would allow

a baby to be ripped from

the mother's womb moments from birth.

These are living,feeling, beautiful babies

who will never get the chance to share

their love and theirdreams with the world.

And then we had the caseof the governor of Virginia

where he stated he wouldexecute a baby after birth.

All children, born and unborn, are made in

the holy image of God.

- CBN's White House CorrespondentBen Kennedy joins us now

from the North Lawn and,Ben, what kind of tone

did the president strike?

- Well Mark, PresidentTrump took advantage

of the pulpit Tuesdaynight to call for unity

and bipartisanship.

For nearly an hour and a halfhe rejected partisan politics

and touted economic improvements.

Then the Commander inChief then broke down

his vision for safe and legal immigration,

demanding a border wall.

He illustrated his pointby hosting family members

of an elderly couple murderedin their home just last month

by an undocumented immigrant.

Trump said, simply put,"Walls save lives."

The future of the wallstill remains a question

as Congressional negotiatorscontinue to work out a deal

to prevent yet anothergovernment shutdown.

Now in the Democrats' response,

former Georgia governor candidateStacy Abrams placed blame

for the recent closing of

the government directly on the president.

Mark?

- And Ben, at timesDemocrats erupted in cheer.

What did the president hit onthat had bipartisan support?

- Yeah Mark, Trumpstruck a bipartisan tone

when talking about rebuildingAmerica, fighting cancer,

eradicating HIV, loweringthe cost of healthcare,

and the positive economy.

He got a standing ovation, asyou were talking about, Mark,

from both sides afterstating women have filled

more than 50% of new jobscreated in the last year alone.

Now that being said, thepresident did push back

against abortion sayingwe need to work together

to build a culture thatcherishes innocent life.

A very strong message hehit on during his speech

which was delayed for a week due

to the partial government shutdown.

- And Ben, real quick.

We heard the presidentlock down a date and time

for meeting with North Korea, right?

- He did.

President Trump confirmedhis second summit

with North Korean dictator Kim Jung-un

for February 27th and 28th in Vietnam.

Trump said his relationshipwith Kim is good

but that much work remainsto be done in North Korea.

- All right, Ben Kennedy our

CBN News White House correspondent.

Thank you, Ben, for covering this.

- Thanks, Mark.

- Congressman Randy Forbes,a member of the House

of Representatives from2001 to 2017 representing

Virginia's 4th Congressional District

joins us now with more onthe state of the union.

Mr. Forbes, thanks for your time.

- Well thank you.

- First of all, how do youthink the president did?

- You know, you always look,

I always look and try to measure

based on what's going onbehind the scenes as well.

In this particular situation,

I think the president accomplished

what he wanted to accomplish

which was he came acrosslooking presidential,

he painted pictures, andI think, at the same time,

he reached out to independent voters

and made the membersthat are sitting in there

proud of him and willing to fight

for some of the parts of his agenda

that he wanted to get across last night.

- Our White Housecorrespondent Ben Kennedy

reported on the president'smessage on abortion.

As a man of faith, how doyou think Mr. Trump did

overall on issues important to Christians?

- I think he was very bold

and I think one of the things

that he did so well is to look

at the audience he was trying to get.

He was trying to get thatindependent group, which he did,

because he showed theextremes that the Democrats

have gone to on issues like abortion.

We've had people who arepro-choice across the country

who've said New York and whatthe Virginia governor said

has just gone too far.

I think the other thingthe president did very well

was put that defining line on socialism

and what he essentiallydid is say I'm a president

that's willing to meet in the middle.

I'm willing to talk butI'm gonna stand bold

for issues that I think areimportant to the country.

- As we reported, therewere times that Democrats

cheered with Republicanson some of the things

the president said.

Do you think there's a chance

of Democrats and Republicans,

that they can cross the battle lines

and work toward unity?

- You know, I thinkthat's a real challenge

but that's not exactly what the president

was trying to accomplish.

The Democrats, many of them that went into

the speech last night, ifthey hated the president

they come out hating thepresident after that speech.

What the president was tryingto say to middle America

is I'm willing to sitdown and talk with them.

I'm willing to reach compromises.

Now it's gonna be in their lap to do that.

I think he set a great tone.

I think he has a great opportunity

to get some things accomplished

and I think that speech wasa good takeoff for that.

- Do you think theCongressional Prayer Caucus

can make a difference?

- We already are making a difference.

Right now we're the largest group

of elected leaders across the country

and what we do is strategically fight

the fight for faith because, as you know,

we're seeing an anti-faithmovement in this country

that's trying to take faith outof the marketplace of ideas.

We have over 1,200 elected officials.

We're in 33 states.

We have members in theUnited States Senate

and the United States House.

We're gonna continue to fight this fight.

You see more and morestudents going to school now

with In God We Trust in their classroom.

You see Bible curriculums coming back

where people can talk about ideas

that we think were the cornerstone

that built this country

and will keep it strong in the future.

- Mr. Forbes, how would youencourage Americans to pray?

- You know, I would encouragethem to pray consistently.

We've been told told to do that.

But I would tell 'emto do two other things.

What we encourage people to dois, first and foremost, pray.

That's crucial.

It's important.

But the second thing is to stand up.

I think one of the things

that we tell Christians to do

is praying is important

but then you have to stand.

And then the third thing we tell 'em to do

is to run to the roar of the challenges

that are facing us.

You know, we serve a very powerful God.

We serve a truth that America needs

and we shouldn't back down from that.

We should run towards these challenges.

And the last thing is they need to pray

that we'll be more strategic in what we do

and actually think through and plan out

how we defend and protectfaith in the years to come

for the next generation of Americans.

- All right, Congressman Randy Forbes.

Thank you so much for your insight, sir.

- Thank you.

- In other news, the Senatepassed legislation on Tuesday

that would curb boycotts against Israel.

The measure would allowstate and local governments

to prohibit investment into groups

that support boycott,divestment, and sanctions

or BDS against Israel orrestrict contracting with them.

Although the measure haspassed in the Senate,

it is expected to receive pushback

in the Democratic controlled House.

So far, 27 states have adopted laws

that discourage boycotts against Israel.

More and more people arechoosing to settle down

in Israeli settlements.

That's according to population data

obtained from the IsraeliInterior Ministry.

The number of people livingin Israeli settlements

grew at a much faster rate

than the overall Israelipopulation last year.

And more growth is predicted.

According to the Director

of West Bank Jewish Population Stats,

the White House has created

a much friendlierenvironment for settlers.

Political parties in Venezuela are calling

for elections in Congress in the struggle

for power in that country.

As the political crisis plays out,

the country is also sufferinga humanitarian crisis.

Severe shortages in food and medicine

and inflation is runningat 80,000% last year.

Christian groups are providing aid

and Samaritan Purse's Franklin Graham

says he's also prepared to offer help.

Many Venezuelans havecrossed into Colombia

looking for both food and medicine.

(speaking foreign language)

- [Translator] InVenezuela, there's nothing.

One cannot find medicine.

Nothing, nothing, nothing.

Not even the vaccines for the baby

and since the girls were sick,

I came for help here at the Red Cross

because they give themedicines all at once.

- A pastor in Myanmaris dead after reportedly

being abducted at gunpoint.

Gospel for Asia says

Pastor Tun was a fieldpartner of the ministry.

Married with three children,

Pastor Tun led a congregation

in Myanmar's Rakhine state.

During 20 years as a pastor,

he had shared the love of Christ

with many and started several fellowships.

GFA's founder, Dr. K.P.Yohannan, reacted to his death

saying, "We are heartbroken tolearn of Pastor Tun's death,

"and we ask you to join us in praying

"for his wife and family, and his church at this time,

"that they may know God'scomfort, peace, and strength."

The ministry says Pastor Tun was killed

along with several others

who had been taken by a rebel group.

A university in Colorado is being sued

for refusing to recognize

a Christian apologeticsclub on its campus.

The student group, Ratio Christi,

was denied formal registration status

by the University of Colorado,

Colorado Springs, starting in 2016.

According to campus officials,

the group would not beregistered with the campus

until they allowed non-Christians

and those with anti-Christian beliefs

to join the club.

Last November, the club sued the school

arguing that the university'sdenial of recognition

was a viewpoint discrimination

against the group's religious beliefs.

The school is expected to formally respond

to the lawsuit in the next two weeks.

She talks about the president, faith,

and being a working mom with one

of the most high profilejobs in the nation.

- [Announcer] When you give,

smiles grow bigger.

When you care,

homes are happier.

When you comfort,

the hurt goes away.

When we all come together to love,

miracles happen.

- Hello, I'm Terry Meeuwsen.

Did you know there are morethan 148 million orphans

in the world today?

148 million.

But it was three little girls

that taught me aboutthe plight of orphans.

My husband and I spent nearly a month

immersed in the daily activities

of a Ukrainian orphanage

as we waited to adopt three sisters.

I saw first hand the utter loneliness,

the pain of rejection,

and the overwhelming desire to be loved.

That experience changed me forever

and out of it grew aministry from my heart

called Orphan's Promise.

Today we're helping orphansand vulnerable children

in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Thousands of childrenare now in safe homes.

They're being educated andthey're learning life skills.

I'm asking you to join with me

and become family to these children.

Will you call the numberon your screen right now?

Because every child deservesa chance to be happy.

- Hello?

- Welcome back.

The president's much anticipatedState of the Union address

is being reviewed todayby friends and foes alike

and the woman who often takesthe shots from the media

on his behalf is PressSecretary Sarah Sanders.

As President Trump's spokesperson,

Sanders has become a household name.

For conservatives, she's a hero

but to liberals, especiallysome in the media,

she's part of the problem.

CBN's Jennifer Wishon hasmore from the White House.

- Sarah Sanders is the faceof the Trump administration

which comes with botharrows and adoration.

In a wide ranging interview,

CBN's Chief PoliticalAnalyst David Brody and I

talked to her about jugglingher never ending job

with three small kids, the media,

and praying for her enemies.

- You see a lot of, like, angry faces,

people that, their sole purpose is to find

this gotcha moment, to catch you.

Their job is not to get information

which is what the briefingis supposed to be.

- [Jennifer] Sarah Sanderssays while the White House

Press Corps can be a tough crowd,

that's not why she holds fewer briefings.

- The president himselfengages with the media

more than any president has in history.

He's the most accessible

and I think the White House in general

is the most accessiblewhen it comes to the media.

We have an incredible story to tell

and we're proud and happy to do it.

The difference is thatthe world has changed

in terms of how you caninteract with the press.

- [Jennifer] As Congressbegins negotiations

to avoid a second shutdown,Sanders says the president

has already laid out his demands.

- Walls should not be controversial.

It's just common sense.

Walls work.

- The president, nomatter what the topic is,

he's a natural born leaderand so something that is this

big of a priority forhim you can expect him

to continue to lead on the effort.

- Nancy Pelosi says thewall is, quote, immoral.

- It's very hard at this point

to even take a lecture from Democrats

on what is moral and what isn't.

People who are willingto allow legislation

to pass supporting late term abortion,

the idea that they wouldtake out So Help Me God

in the platform the HouseDemocrats have raised this week.

But the idea that protectingthe people of your country,

which is the fundamentalduty of being President

of the United States, wouldin some way be immoral

is a ridiculous charge and something that

I think probably, I wouldthink Speaker Pelosi

may even regret making that comment

because she's seen howridiculous that sounds

and, you know, how the evidence is

so contrary to that comment.

- [Jennifer] After twofreshmen Congresswomen

were accused of makinganti-Semitic remarks,

Sanders says there's a double standard

on the Democrats' side.

- Any time somebodywhose not even associated

with the president says something,

the first thing is, "Will you condemn?

"Will you say that this is terrible?"

Where's the leadershipon the Democrats' side

to call this out?

The comments that they'vemade are outrageous.

(missile booms)

- [Jennifer] As the US preparesto withdraw from Syria,

Sanders wants Christiansand Kurds in the region

to know they'll still have support.

- The idea that the president

is just stepping away

and ignoring any potential problem

doesn't understand the fundamentaldecision that he's made.

He wants to bring ourtroops home, out of Syria,

but we're not leaving the region.

- You are not shy about the fact

that you're a woman of faith.

- People say you have to separate that.

If it's real faith, you can't separate it

because it's who you are.

It's a part of who you are.

- As the Bible says, you know,

the Bible commands usto pray for our enemies.

Is it hard (chuckles) topray for your enemies?

(Sarah laughs)That list can be long, Sarah.

- Actually, it can be,I think, a helpful tool

in keeping you calm.

There's a reason that God callsus to pray for our enemies

and I think it's to giveus better perspective

and better understanding of who they are.

- I want to talk about the toll

that this job has taken on you.

You're gonna miss moments with your kids,

with your family.

Do you struggle with mommy guilt?

- Oh, every single day.

To explain to a six, five, and three year old

what you do and why it'simportant is nearly impossible.

My oldest is a girl.

I think it's very important for her

to see, even at thisage, that, as a woman,

she can do anythingthat she sets out to do.

- Does it kind of in a way blow your mind

that, you know, someone like Donald Trump

who is sitting in the Oval Office.

I mean, I know you canlist the accomplishments

but at the same time, justfrom a spiritual perspective,

there are a lot of Christians that believe

for such a time as this.

- I think God calls all of us

to fill different roles at different times

and I think that He wantedDonald Trump to become president.

- He's an interesting pick

and an imperfect messenger

who requires a press secretarywho's quick on her feet.

Jennifer Wishon, CBNNews, the White House.

One woman's story offinding a way to do it.

- Many people fear gettingolder means losing independence,

memory and mobility, butaging well is possible.

CBN health reporter LorieJohnson introduces us

to a woman who proves it's never

too late to turn back the clock.

- [Lorie] At age 61,Barbara Hannah Grufferman

feels happier and healthierthan many people half her age.

- We can't control getting older

but we can control how we do it.

- [Lorie] You mightfind it hard to believe

that until about a decade ago,

Barbara lived like a couch potato.

- The last time I had worked out seriously

was back when Jane Fondawas doing those tapes,

you know, feel the burnand all that stuff.

- [Lorie] By middleage, she put on weight,

felt sluggish, and believedher best years were behind her.

- And I was starting to feel,

is this what turning 50 is all about?

It was a very upsetting moment for me

and it was a very scary time for me.

- [Lorie] In the midst of her depression,

she chose to take a little walk.

- I put one foot in front of the other.

I literally took my first step

to my whole new life.

I didn't realize it then.

- [Lorie] The walks startedhappening more often,

became longer, and she startedmixing in a little jogging.

- I was starting to lose the weight.

I was starting to have more energy.

I was just starting to look better.

And started to feel, for thefirst time since turning 50,

actually positive about my future.

- That positive feeling led her

to complete five marathons, write three books,

including her latest, Love Your Age,

becoming an AARP ambassador,

and getting off all medications.

Doctors say regularexercise means we can ditch

a lot of the pills we takelike anti-depressants,

blood pressure medication,and sleeping pills.

It also reduces therisk of chronic diseases

like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes

according to the ClevelandClinic's Dr. Michael Roizen.

- Well, it's never too lateuntil you're six feet under

so it's never too lateuntil they're putting dirt

on top of you.

- [Lorie] In his book, AgeProof, Roizen cites research

showing exercise cansignificantly strengthen

our immune system.

- This is really strange

'cause no one ever expected this.

- [Lorie] Scientistsnow tell us our ability

to fight off everythingfrom the common cold

to Alzheimer's is largely determined

by the bacteria in our gut.

- And believe it or not, exercise was one

of the great things at changingthe bacteria inside you,

we don't know why, intobeing much healthier.

- But not just any exercise.

Researchers figured out theleast amount of exercise

we need to do to achievethe maximum health benefits.

It involves four types of exercise.

10,000 steps a day which can be measured

on a fitness tracker,

20 jumps each morning and night,

30 minutes of resistancetraining three times a week,

and 20 minutes of cardiothree times a week.

- Doing 20 minutes three times a week

of things that make yousweat in a cool room,

that's what we call cardio.

- [Lorie] As spokeswoman for

the American Osteoporosis Foundation,

Barbara feels especially passionate

about resistance training,

which can mean lifting weights

or using your body weight,as in pushups or planks.

That, along with calcium andvitamin D strengthens bones.

- This is critical becausepeople when they fall

at an advanced age can be debilitated

for the rest of their lives

and that is something that I think about.

- [Lorie] While exercise isn'tthe only anti-aging tool,

it's often the first.

- Because I was feeling somuch better and motivated

to live a healthier life,

I decided to, well, investigate, what should I eat?

- [Lorie] Barbara switchedto a plant based diet,

avoiding sugar and processed foods.

So while aging is inevitable,

don't give up on life.

Walking, cardio, and resistance training

can help you avoid many ofthe pitfalls of getting older.

Lorie Johnson, CBN News.
