Two members of the much-lovedDuck Dynasty family
are joining us today, and we'retaking you behind the scenes

in uplifting entertainment.

- [Efrem] The actor shared the story
of Jesus' birth from Luke's gospel,
in the candlelight ceremonythe park has hosted
every year since opening in 1955.
- The Bible says, "When she saw him,
"she was troubled at his saying,
and considered what mannerof greeting this was."
That seems confusing to me,so I'll just paraphrase.
She was kind of scared,
'cause an angel just fellout from the ceiling.

more than a dozen area school, church,

from the Disneyland cast.

- [Efrem] He calls his newproject, House Full of Hope.
- We actually reach out, and give,
and do our best to raise monies
for those that havebeen so less fortunate.
- And so begins this week's countdown.
We now turn to an entrepreneurwho became a household name
with his family's hitreality series, Duck Dynasty.
Willie Robertson is here with a look
at one project he's been workingon, since the show's end.
From a candy salesman in grade school,
to the CEO of the family business
that brought us Duck Dynasty,
Willie Robertson's newestbook American Entrepreneur,
shares what it meansto be a business owner
and a risk taker.
So Duck Dynasty ends, you don't slow down.
- Yeah, Duck Dynasty went in abunch of different directions
but really there wouldn't of been a show
without somebody being an entrepreneur,
'cause we had a business.
So my father came up
with this double reeded duck call system,
and was passionate about that.
And then I had my own businessesthat I talk in the book.
I had a worm farm where Isold worms to fishermen,
but that's a tough, reallabor-intensive job.
So, yeah.(Efrem laughs)
I went on to selling candy and gum
out of my locker at school,
and the principal calledme down to his office.
I was in fifth grade, and he called me down.
He said, man I met withthe concession stand
and their sales are down,
and I'm gonna have toshut your business down.
I'm like ah.
Then I started doing whatI call the human jukebox,
where you'd put a quarterunder my arm and drop it in;
I would sing songs forpeople on the school bus.
- Okay (laughing).
- Any way to make a buck.
And obviously we sold fish all the time,
so I got to be a pretty good salesman
trying to sell fish on street corners.
We talk about that andtalk about our background,
and then move into thestories of basically
a lot of entrepreneurs inAmerica who were successful.
Some had odd jobs,
and what I found wasthey were all different,
different ages,
different educational backgrounds.
Some came from rich families.
Some came from poor families.
So, we try to take different people
and have different perspectives,
not just the same types of people.
'Cause I wanna inspirepeople with the book.
It was inspiring just putting it together
and hearing these storiesand just saying, "Man."
And realizing that it's never too late,
and you didn't miss your opportunity,
or you didn't come fromthe right background,
so you're not gonna haveas many opportunities.
The people in this book,
the main trait that Isee that they all have,
just incredible work ethic.
And I think America's still there.
You can do whatever you wanna do,
and that's the greatthing about our country.
- Where did the entrepreneurialspirit come from, for you?
It seems like you've always had it.
I mean, even as a kid, selling candy and worms.
- I dunno where it came from.
I guess I just was always,
itt's just always been there.
I've always thought and I kinda had
a business mind like that.
And there were things thatI wanted, just like any kid.
Wanted the next, I rememberwhen Nikes were so big,
and I remember seeing emand going, ah I want a pair.
The first pair I got, I almost fell down,
'cause I kept lookin' at my feet walkin'
all the way to the school bus.(laughing)
It was just white and blue stripes,
and I was like, I have madeit, I finally got some Nikes.
Yeah so, for me it was wantingto have some better things,
and so thinking, well,
I didn't wanna waitaround on somebody else.
I think a lot ofentrepreneurs are like that.
They just don't feel likewaiting on someone else
to make it happen for them.
They're like, I'm gonnamake it happen right now.
And so, I've always had that spirit.
I don't know.
I guess the Lord blessed me with it.
- Are you working to pass on that idea
of entrepreneurship to your children?
Is that what you're hoping they learn.
- I am, you know.
Hopefully, they will haveit, and not everyone does.
I think it may be a littleunfair to put that on people.
I have a great quote atthe end by Michael Dell,
and he says he gets thisquestion all the time,
what does it take to bea great entrepreneur?
And he says, I don'treally like that question,
because, if you have to ask that question,
you're probably not one.
So, you know for my kids, we've yeah,
I think there's someopportunities there for them,
and especially now, becauseof the show and the platform.
Our daughter Sadie's done great with that.
To take that platform, sheprobably has more businesses
than I have.
So you either have that spirit,
but it's okay if you don't.
If you're okay, you say, Iwanna work for someone else.
'Cause what comes alongwith the entrepreneur
running a business is a lotta stress.
- Absolutely.- Not everybody wants
that stress.
And they're like, hey man,I just wanna go to work.
And when you're the man,you gotta do it all,
and so when everybody else is gone,
and you're still at 10 o'clockthinkin' about the business.
So it's not for everybody.
So I would love for my kidsto be interested in that,
or maybe do something that we've done.
But if not, that's fine, too, so I try not to.
But I am wanting to educate other people,
and go and maybe teach this
to some younger people, some kids,
and see if you can find somereal entrepreneurs out there.
Get the book in their hand andmaybe they can start reading
and get'em off them video games,
and say, hey man, thinkabout something you can do.
So, I'm gonna do that forsure in the coming year.

I mean, they don't just sponsor children.
They give animals, theygive water, they do it all.
And so for me to be here, and people in America
to actually get to see what they do,
I mean, that's awesome.- Yeah.
So what happens here, what's going on?

And, I mean, it's huge.
I've gotten to witness kids,
and I find out they're sponsored.
- Oh, wow.- And it's the most
overwhelming like heartof gratitude and joy,
and so this is really special.
- So the next stop on thetour, these are Hope Kits?
- Yes.- What does that mean?
- The Hope Kits are really amazing,
each year they have a differentthing that they're giving to
and this year it's women in the US.
So right here in our own country
that have just been rescued
from trafficking or abusive situations.
And most of the time, whenwomen escape these situations,
they are normally just inthe clothes on their back,
that's all they have.
And so, as soon as they get out,
whenever they come to rescue,
they're gonna have these Hope Kits.
And it'll have everything that,to us, are everyday things,
like a hairbrush and toothbrush, different things like that,
but to them, it's like actuallyessential in the moment,
and it's so important to them.
And then the best part at theend of the whole Hope Kit,
you kinda build a Hope Kit yourself,
and then you get to put this notebook in,
and write a note to them.- Oh, wow.
- And so it's really specialbecause the first thing
they get to do when they're rescued
is read an encouraging message.
And that's awesome, and theyalso have a little journal.
- Now, what's a shopwithout a tree (laughs)?
- (laughs) Exactly, right?

- Okay so this is a HopeTree, and it's really special
because the whole conceptis people wrote in already
like all of these little prayers
and hopes that they havefor kids around the world.
And then we put it on the tree,
and the whole idea of the analogy is
when you hope for something, when you pray for something,
it lights the world up;and this is the analogy
of it lit the tree up.
- Ah.
- It's really speciallike, this is an example.
It says, my hope as ateacher is that every child
will be able to read and write.
- Why has this becomesuch a passion for you,
and touched your heart?
- Yeah, well for me, it's like,
I don't think that everybodyunderstands like, the realness
of what's happening aroundthe world a lot of times.
We get caught up in our everyday life,
and we're going and we'removing and we're busy.

are in really tough situations.
And I'm like really bigon the message of unity,
and I believe that when youunite together in something,
that's how you get things done.
That's how we stand like, unitedwe stand, divided we fall.
And so to me, to be able toteam up with World Vision
in this act of unity,
and then see so many people join too,
you not only see a act of unity,
but you see the impactthat the unity makes.
And so for me, to actuallyget to see change, it matters.
