NARRATOR: In the wake of the
recent flooding in Louisiana,
OperationBlessing and a team
of more than 200 volunteers
is helping people get
back on their feet.
In Denham Springs we
reached out to one
special and important
group-- police officers
and their families.
They were the ones pulling
people off of rooftops,
they were the ones rescuing
people, literally saving lives.
And now these guys and
gals are working hard
to protect their community
and to keep it safe.
So while they're
doing that and working
all kinds of crazy
hours, OperationBlessing
wants to come in
and support them.
NARRATOR: David Person
is a police chaplain.
His own home was flooded,
but he was more concerned
about his fellow officers.
They would be in
a complete mess
if it wasn't for
OperationBlessing
taking care of this
while they're out
taking care of the community.
NARRATOR: Danielle Stirling's
husband is a police officer.
Devastation, stress, worry,
anxiety, all of the above.
We didn't know where to start.
I mean right now
they are completely
gutting my housee-- walls,
belonging cabinets, everything.
We're getting down to the
ceiling, studs, and floor.
That is pretty much what
we have to rebuild from.
NARRATOR: Volunteers included
a team of law enforcement
officers and other
public servants
from Mississippi, led by their
police chief Luke Thompson.
We wanted to come
and just simply try
to help and volunteer.
With police officers,
they're out still working,
they're patrolling,
they're doing the things
that police officers do in
spite of their own losses.
And right now they're
working lots of overtime
with very little time off.
So the families have the
responsibility fall on them
to do things like we're
doing-- tearing out sheet rock.
So that's what we're here doing.
We're forever grateful.
We would have never been able to
do this with his work schedule
and everyone, all of our
friends, all of our family,
they're going through
the same exact thing too.
We would have never been able
to make progress like this.
I would definitely like to
thank OperationBlessing.
They have really
saved our family.
