I'm Landon Schott, author
of the book "Gay Awareness,
Discovering the Heart of the
Father and the Mind of Christ
on Sexuality."
People ask me all the time can
you be gay and a Christian?
And my response is what does
it mean to be a Christian?
Well, to be a Christian means
that you are a Christ follower.
You are a disciple
of Jesus Christ.
It means that God's word
becomes the lamp into your feet
and the light into your path.
So, my question is where
are the scriptures that
teach a disciple of Jesus that
they can be a gay Christian?
In fact, I completely
reject the concept at all,
because the Bible does.
There is no scriptures
that tell how
a husband should
treat a husband,
or a wife should treat a wife.
The only scriptures we
have are for husbands
how to treat our wives, or
wives to honor their husbands.
And in fact, every
scripture in the Bible
only supports
heterosexual relationships
in the boundaries of marriage.
God is the one who gives
us those blueprints.
God's the one that gives
us those directives.
It's really important
that you understand this,
because when you understand
what the Bible says, then
we can say, OK,
I'll take the Bible
as the blueprint for my life.
So, when people say can you
be a gay Christian, what
they're really saying is this.
Can you struggle with same sex
attractions and homosexuality?
Can you be tempted by this and
still be a follower of Jesus?
And the answer is absolutely.
All of us are
struggling with sin.
All of us are working
out our own temptation,
both the heterosexual
and the homosexual.
But then they want to
take it a step further
and they say, well, if I
can be a gay Christian, then
why can't I be a
practicing gay Christian?
And the reason why you can't
be a practicing gay Christian,
because a dedicated Christ
follower will see all
of the scriptures that the Bible
rejects homosexual practice
and realize that I
cannot walk in a flesh--
I cannot do what I want to do
and still be a dedicated Christ
follower.
In fact, in First Corinthians
chapter 6, verse 11,
it says many were
homosexuals but when
they came to Jesus
they were washed,
just like when you come to
Jesus you will be washed.
When it comes to
homosexuality in Christianity,
we must be unrelenting with our
love for people and unwavering
in our loyalty to God's word.
