NARRATOR: Rene is a single dad.
He does his best to
protect and watch
over his two small children,
but he says the weather
and the fact that their house
sits on stilts over a river
really makes him nervous.
Rene's 11-year-old son Ray has
picked up on his dad's fear.
We are scared we
might drown and die.
NARRATOR: Then, a typhoon
hit their community
in the Philippines.
Many people drowned.
The river rose and everything
we had washed away.
NARRATOR: After the storm,
Rene sifted through the rubble
with other survivors
for their belongings.
He didn't make enough as a
bicycle taxi driver to rebuild,
so he and the children
ended up in a shelter.
I'm growing old.
I just want my children
to have a safe home.
NARRATOR: When CBN learned
about their situation,
we built in this new
house, far from the river.
Its reinforced cement walls can
withstand earthquakes and winds
up to 150 miles per hour.
I was so excited to
choose my bedroom.
It's a big relief to know we
will be safe in our new house.
NARRATOR: Rene was so grateful
for the house we gave him
that he helped us build more
houses for other typhoon
victims in this CBN
Community of Hope.
Thank you, CBN,
for our new house.
