IN THE SHADOW OF MOUNT

KILIMANJARO, LIFE IS A CHALLENGE

FOR WOMEN LIKE SUSAN.

THREE YEARS AGO A DROUGHT KILLED

MOST OF THE LIVESTOCK.

FOR SUSAN, THAT IS WHEN SHE LOST

HER HUSBAND.

I HAVE TO CARE FOR MY

CHILDREN AND MAKE SURE THEY HAVE

FOOD AND AN EDUCATION.

AFTER MY HUSBAND DIED, I WORKED

ON PEOPLE'S FARMS.

OTHER TIMES I CUT FIREWOOD TO

SELL.

SUSAN STRUGGLES LIKE THE REST

OF THE WOMEN TO FIND FRESH WATER

TO DRINK.

THIS TINY MUD HUT IS WHERE THEY

SLEEP AND COOK THEIR MEALS.

LITTLE VENTILATION AND CHILDREN

GET SICK FROM BREATHING IN ALL

THE SMOKE.

THE FIRST THING

OPERATION

BLESSING DID FOR SUSAN IN THE

COMMUNITY WAS DIG A DEEP WELL.

NEXT WE BUILD A SCHOOL WHERE

THREE OF SUSAN'S CHILDREN

ATTEND.

TO HELP THE WOMEN EARN EXTRA

MONEY, OPERATION BLESSING

STARTED A 50 ACRE FARM COMPLETE

WITH DRIP IRRIGATION WHERE THEY

CAN GROW TOMATOES AND OTHER

VEGETABLES TO SELL IN THE

MARKET.

THE VEGETABLES FEED MY

FAMILY, I AM SEEING A BRIGHTER

FUTURE.

SUSAN WAS ABLE TO BUY ALL THE

MATERIALS NEEDED TO BUILD A NEW

HOUSE FOR HER FAMILY.

THE OLD MUD HUT WILL ONLY BE

USED FOR COOKING.

WE SEE GOD BRINGING NEW

OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH THE WORK

OPERATION BLESSING IS DOING

HERE.
