I GET TO GET IN A RACE
CAR AND GO AS FAST AS I
POSSIBLY CAN AND MAKE A
LIVING DOING IT.
Reporter: BLAKE COOK IS
A NASCAR DRIVER.
THE LOVE OF RACING STARTED
AS A BOY.
MOTOR BIKES WERE THE LOVE
OF MY LIFE GROWING UP FROM
THE TIME I WAS 13 TO 17
YEARS OLD.
I WAS ON THE ROAD WITH MY
FAMILY.
Reporter: HE WAS RAISED
IN A CHRISTIAN HOME, BUT HE
SAYS HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH
GOD WAS A DISTANT SECOND TO
HIS LOVE FOR MOTE
MOTOCROSS.
BEFORE I WOULD TAKE OFF,
I WOULD SAY A PRAYER AND BOW
MY HEAD, BUT I DIDN'T REALLY
HAVE THAT ONE-ON-ONE
RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
IT WAS ALMOST LIKE, NOW IS
THE TIME I NEED YOU, LORD.
I'M GOING TO RISK MY LIFE,
BUT WHEN I'M DONE, I'LL TALK
TO YOU NEXT WEEK WHEN I'M
BACK ON THE STARTING LINE.
Reporter: AFTER SEVERAL
TEARS TO HIS A.C.L., BLAKE'S
MOTOCROSS CAREER WAS OVER,
BUT HIS FOOTE FATHER
SUGGESTED ANOTHER HOBBY.
HE BOUGHT HIS RACE CAR,
AND HE WAS, DO YOU LIKE IT?
I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT, AND
AFTER DRIVING THAT TRUCK,
PEOPLE SAID, YOU'RE REALLY
GOOD.
YOU CAN MAKE SOMETHING OF
IT.
AND I HEARD WITH GOD, ALL
THINGS ARE POSSIBLE, AND I
REALLY TOOK IT TO HEART.
WHEN I HAD MY FIRST SHOT TO
RACE IN NASCAR, I REALLY
WASN'T THAT NERVOUS.
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO
SHIFT.
BECAUSE MY RACE CARS AT HOME
WERE ALL AUTOMATICS.
I GOT TO THE RACE FOR THE
FIRST TIME, AND I KNEW IT
WAS GOING TO BE A MANUAL
TRANSMISSION, BUT I KNOW GOD
OPENED THIS DOOR.
FEAR WASN'T AN OPTION.
AND THEN I QUALIFIED IN
CALIFORNIA, AND THEN THE
NASCAR CANYON SERIES.
Reporter: BLAKE SAYS HE
MADE HIS CHRISTIAN FAITH A
PRIORITY AND PUT HIS TRUST
IN JESUS.
IT'S A REALLY PERSONAL,
ONE-ON-ONE RELATIONSHIP.
THAT REALLY STARTED WHEN I
WAS ABOUT 20 YEARS OLD.
WHEN I STOPPED CLENCHING THE
HOLY SPIRIT AND STARTED
LISTENING, AND READING THE
WORD MORE AND STUDYING AND
REALLY PURSUING CHRIST.
Reporter: HE SAYS HIS
CHRISTIAN FAITH HAS HELPED
BRING STABILITY TO A CAREER
THAT CAN END IN A MINUTE.
SHORTLY AFTER I GOT
MARRIED, I LOST MY
SPONSORSHIP.
WORRYING DOES NOT ADD A
SINGLE DAY TO OUR LIVES,
JESUS TELLS US.
I KNOW THAT GOD IS GOING TO
TAKE CARE OF ME, AND HE IS
GOING TO PROVIDE MY DAILY
BREAD.
WHAT HAS REALLY HELPED ME
WITH THAT IS SURROUNDING
MYSELF WITH GREAT PEOPLE WHO
ON THE SAME MINDSET.
HAVING FELLOWSHIP, BUILDING
EACH OTHER UP, AND ALSO
SPEAKING TRUTH INTO EACH
OTHER'S LIVES.
Reporter: AFTER A BRIEF
PITSTOP FROM RACING, BLAKE
WAS BACK IN THE DRIVER'S
SEAT.
HE IS NOW SPONSORED BY
COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL,
AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY SPEAKS
ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH
JESUS WHEREVER HE CAN.
HE HAS GIVEN ME THAT
PLATFORM THAT PEOPLE LISTEN
TO ME.
AND I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A
GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO TELL
PEOPLE ABOUT JESUS THROUGH
THAT.
IT IS HARD FOR ME NOT TO
TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE PERSON
I LOVE.
EVERY RESPONSE USUALLY HAD
JESUS INVOLVED IN IT.
Reporter: BLAKE SAYS HE
KEEPS HIS LIFE AND HIS RACE
CAR IN GOD'S CAPABLE HANDS.
I HAVE TO FULLY SURRENDER
EVERYTHING TO LET GOD WORK
IN MY LIFE.
IT IS NOT A ROUTINE.
IT IS NOT A SUPERSTITIOUS
THING, THAT IF I DON'T PRAY,
I'M NOT GOING TO PERFORM.
IT IS ALL ABOUT PUTTING THE
CAR IN GOD'S HANDS.
PUT THIS CAR WHERE YOU WANT
IT, IS MY PRAYER.
NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, I
KNOW I'VE SAID THAT PRAYER
AND IT IS IN THIS HANDS.
