Peace

-- It is curious that with all our time-saving and labor-saving devices
(things our ancestors might have yearned for), we still seem incredibly rushed,
hassled, often perceiving life as a struggle with no end in sight. No wonder peace
sounds so attractive to us. Turn on the nightly news and you'll notice
that the politicians of the world haven't done well at bringing peace. Nor is
this likely to happen. We can't wait on the governments to bring peace. Anyway,
peace doesn't just mean the absence of war. It means harmony, within individuals
and between people. This kind of peace can be in the midst of our own hectic,
stress-filled lives. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose
thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3 "There is no peace for the wicked,"
says the LORD . Isaiah 48:22 "God blesses those who work for peace, for
they will be called the children of God." Matthew 5:9 I will lie down in
peace and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. Psalm 4:8 I listen
carefully to what God the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his people, his
faithful ones. Psalm 85:8 When the ways of people please the LORD, he makes
even their enemies live at peace with them. Proverbs 16:7 A dry crust eaten
in peace is better than a great feast with strife. Proverbs 17:1 If your
sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls
your mind, there is life and peace. Romans 8:6 Therefore, since we have
been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what
Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Romans 5:1 I pray that God, who gives
you hope, will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe in him. May you
overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 The
God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. Romans 16:20 When the
Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Here there is no conflict with the law. Galatians 5:22-23 The first Christians
knew that one great enemy of peace is worry. We worry because we lack faith that
God cares for us. So we often deprive ourselves of peace because of our lack of
faith in God's continuous care. Paul assured the Christians that God offered them
something greater than a life of worry: Don't worry about anything; instead,
pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.
If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than
the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you
live in Christ Jesus. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard
from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians
4:7 Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members
of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Colossians
3:15 There will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good.
Romans 2:10 Try to live in peace with everyone, and seek to live a clean
and holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14
Jesus, who was persecuted to the point of death, knew that his followers would
also face persecution. He gave them a promise: peace, even with persecution or
the threat of persecution: "I am leaving you with a gift -- peace of mind and
heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be
troubled or afraid." John 14:27 "I have told you all this so that you may
have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take
heart, because I have overcome the world." John 16:33 See also Contentment,
