-- One TV talk show host claims that loneliness is the great problem
in our society -- not poverty, not homelessness, not drugs, not crime, but just
plain loneliness, that achy feeling of not being connected closely
to someone. For the lonely person the Bible holds promises of the deepest and
richest kind of fellowship -- fellowship with God. Turn to me and have
mercy on me, for I am alone and in deep distress. May integrity and honesty
protect me, for I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:16, 21 As for me, I am poor
and needy, but the Lord is thinking about me right now. You are my helper and
my savior. Do not delay, O my God. Psalm 40:17 Sing praises to God and to
his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the LORD
-- rejoice in his presence! Father to the fatherless, defender of widows --
this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets
the prisoners free and gives them joy. Psalm 68:4-6 I will be your Father,
and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. 2 Corinthians
6:18 See also Fellowship with God, Friends.
