A human was needed to die for humans’ sin. But all humans are sinful. The only way was if God did it Himself.

There on his own cross, the thief did have the opportunity to take responsibility for the consequences of his destructive habits that hurt himself and others, his sins and imperfections. The thief bowed his will to Jesus and recognized Him for who He is.
