Wendell Goodwin owns Seashield Marine, a company that manufactures and sells the product used on boats, barges and ships to keep their hulls from corroding in sea water.
“If a man enjoys what he’s doing it’s not work,” Wendell says. “And I enjoy what I’m doing because God has placed me here.”
But years ago, Seashield Marine was thousands of dollars in the red. There was simply not enough business.
“It was depressing because year after year you just struggle to keep your head above water. I questioned God,” Wendell admits. “’God, where are you? Why are you allowing me to go through this all the time?’ And it was a very difficult time for me.”
Wendell was a big believer of tithing off of one’s salary, but his daughter suggested that the business begin to tithe.
He was pretty receptive of it. It was like a light bulb went off.
Wendell saw an immediate improvement as Seashield Marine began landing more contracts.
“To be honest, we had done nothing different than what we were doing,” he says. “And that’s why we knew it was the hand of God. We were still doing the same thing we’d always done, but yet we had started to become profitable.”
“You’re being obedient to God and through that He will honor you and bless you.”
Wendell’s daughter then had another suggestion. She asked if the company could give to CBN too. Seashield Marine became a CBN founder.
“I wanted to give to them because my daughter was telling me the good work CBN was doing,” Wendell says. “How they go into foreign countries and even here in our own country and bless people that need help.”
Over the next few years Wendell continued to increase his giving and watched his profit’s soar, making ten times more than before he started giving.
“I was very humbled that God would love me so much that he would bless me like that,” he says choking back his tears. “We serve a good God.”
And Seashield Marine continues to be profitable.
“It really doesn’t matter what the economy is doing. God’s economy is not man’s economy. And even though we were in the heart of the recession we were still being extremely blessed,” he says.
“Put God to the test, to see if He would not give back to you pressed down, shaken together, and overrunning. Because God is a faithful God. And what He says He’ll do…He’ll do!”
Being obedient to God's truth made an incredible difference for Wendell and his daughter. They made themselves available for God's love to flow through them to others, and they are reaping a blessing themselves as well. Join them in partnering with CBN.
