CBN.com – When he’s not learning math and history, Jose Luis Alarcon works on mastering the ball. He loves playing  “football” with his friends and his dog. This young soccer player dreams of winning the World Cup.

“When I´m playing soccer, I love when I score a goal,” Jose Luis said. But last year, sickness kept him  from his passion and even put his life in risk. Jose Luis suffered from parasites.

“He couldn’t breathe,” his mom said. “Every time I fed him, Jose Luis couldn’t swallow.”  Jose’s mom works very hard washing clothes in the neighborhood. She also travels to the city of Lima to clean houses. But a doctor was not something she could afford.

“I cried and cried when I saw my child like this,” she said. “I couldn´t do anything because no one helped me.  I am raising my children alone.” Thanks to your gifts to CBN, Operation Blessing came to Lima recently with more than two million doses of anti-parasite medicine for children like Jose Luis.

Soon, Jose Luis recovered his strength was able to get out of bed. He had been on bedrest for two months! Now, he is back to his passion.

“When he took the pill, my son was healed,” his mom said.

When Operation Blessing sent a doctor to make sure he was free of parasites,  Jose Luis had fully recovered.  The doctor said Jose Luis would have suffered anemia and severe malnutrition and stunted growth if had not received that medicine. 

And that’s not all. CBN had something extra for him when we came to visit: a new soccer ball and a pair of cleats to help him reach his dream.

“Thank you for helping me,” Jose Luis said with a smile.
