NASHVILLE PREDATORS

FORWARD MIKE FISHER HAS BEEN

DESCRIBED AS ONE OF THE MOST

AGGRESSIVE PLAYERS IN THE

NHL.

ALSO KNOWN AS FISH, THE

HUSBAND OF CARRIE UNDERWOOD,

MADE HIS DEBATE ON THE ICE.

I GOT MADE FUN OF WHEN I

WAS A KID.

I CAN REMEMBER COUNTLESS

TIMES OF A FEW TIMES MISSING

PRACTICES, WHATEVER, TO GO

TO CHURCH.

SPECIAL AT A YOUNG AGE.

AND KIDS DIDN'T UNDERSTAND

THAT.

AND THEY WOULD THROW THE

BIBLE-BASHER JOKES AND

THINGS LIKE THAT.

Reporter: MIKE GREW UP

IN A CHRISTIAN HOME IN

PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO.

I STILL REMEMBER THAT DAY

AND HEARING THE MESSAGE OF

CHRIST AND WANTING TO EXCEPT

HIM AS MY SAVIOR.

I REMEMBER GOING TO MY BED

AND KNEELING DOWN WITH MY

MOM AND SHE LED ME TO PRAYER

AND LED ME TO THE LORD.

Reporter: MIKE STARTED

PLAYING HOCKEY COMPETITIVELY

WHEN HE WAS SEVEN.

AND AS SOON AS HE TOUCHED

THE ICE, HE FELT THAT HE HAD

SOMETHING TO PROVE.

ESPECIALLY SINCE THE OTHERS

THOUGHT SINCE HE IS A CHURCH

BOY, HE COULDN'T PLAY HARD.

I WANTED TO PROVE PEOPLE

THAT EVEN THOUGH I WAS A

CHRISTIAN, I COULD PLAY LIKE

CHRISTIAN.

Reporter: MIKE

DEVELOPED INTO A STELLER

ATHLETE.

AND AT THE AGE OF 18, HE WAS

DRAFTED BY THE SENATORS.

BUT IT WAS HARD FOR HIM TO

KEEP HIS PRIORITIES IN

ORDER.

I KIND OF BECAME -- I WAS

STILL A CHRISTIAN, BUT I

WASN'T REALLY WHERE I NEEDED

TO BE.

FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, I GOT

TOO YOU FOCUSED ON HOCKEY.

THAT KIND OF LED ME ASTRAY A

LITTLE BIT.

Reporter: MIKE'S CAREER

SOARED, BUT HE REALIZED HE

NEEDED TO REFOCUS ON HIS

RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

CHRIST.

I WAS ABOUT 22, WHEN I

GOT SETTLED IN OTTAWA.

I SAID, I NEED TO START

FOCUSING.

GOD HAS GIVEN ME THIS UNIQUE

GIFT.

I'M LIVING A DREAM HERE.

I NEED TO START FOCUSING ON

HIM AND SHARING THOSE GIFTS

WITH OTHERS.

Reporter: MIKE HAD 12

SEASONS WITH THE SENATORS.

THEN IN 2011, HE WAS TRADED

TO NASHVILLE.

JUST BEFORE HE LEFT OTTAWA,

HE MADE ONE MORE COMMITMENT

WITH HIS MARRIAGE TO

CARRIE.

A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO,

YOU LET JESUS TAKE OVER THE

WHEEL.

HOW HAS YOUR FAITH HELPED

YOU STAY PLANTED AND KEEP

YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND?

IT HAS BEEN HUGE BECAUSE

THERE ARE DIFFERENT

PRESSURES WITH THE MEDIA.

YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS A

LITTLE BIT IN THE

SPOTLIGHT.

PUTTING THAT INTO

PERSPECTIVE, AND TRYING TO

WORK ON OUR RELATIONSHIP,

AND KEEPING EVERYTHING

OUTSIDE, AND KEEPING THE

LORD IN THE CENTER OF IT.

THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS

TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.

I LOVE THAT BECAUSE THAT IS

SO TRUE.

Reporter: MIKE

CONTINUES TO SERVE AS A

BEACON OF LIGHT IN A GAME

THAT SOMETIMES CAN HAVE A

GRITTY STYLE OF PLAY THAT

MIKE BRING TO THE ICE EVERY

DAY.

IN HIS NEW BOOK "DEFENDER OF

FAITH," HE WANTS TO

ENCOURAGE KIDS TO BE BOLD

ABOUT THEIR FAITH, WHEREVER

GOD LEADS THEM.

I WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO

STAND UP AND BE PROUD OF

THEIR FAITH, AND NOT BE

SCARED OF IT.

IT IS SOMETHING TO BE

DEFINITELY PROUD OF IT, AND

BE ABLE TO SHARE IT.

WHATEVER GOD'S GIFT IS TO

YOU, GO AFTER IT.

PUT THE LORD AT THE CENTER

OF IT, AND THERE IS NO WAY

TO PEACE AND HAPPINESS LIKE

THE LORD CAN BRING.

IT IS EXCITING BECAUSE IT IS

FREE.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO OUT AND

EARN IT.

YOU JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT IT.
