Rice and Bush Ignorant to Koran's True Teachings
I wrote last week about President Bush's apparent indifference to the teachings and history of Islam. This week, it brings me great disappointment to report that Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice--who is, it must be said, absolutely brillant in most areas--may be even more ignorant to the true teachings of the Koran (which Rice has been known to refer to as, "the Holy Koran"). Here's a sampling from Rice's October 25 speech at the State Department's now annual Iftaar dinner:
"We in America know the benevolence that is at the heart of Islam."
She may want to take a poll on that one. Perhaps she could start with some of the families of 9/11 victims. And now for the Secretary's closing remarks:
"So, on behalf of all the men and women of the State Department, thank you for honoring us with your presence this evening. Thank you for what you do every day as people of a great faith, of one of the world's great religions, of a religion of peace and love. Thank you for spending this important holiday evening with us. Ramadan Kareem."
So Islam is not only a religion of peace, as the President likes to call it. It's now been upgraded to a religion of "peace and love." It's unclear just where this Muslim charm offensive is getting the Bush administration.
