Minister Criticizes Psychic Fair on State Grounds

ALBANY, N.Y. - A crystal ball might have come in handy for New York officials hosting a psychic fair in Albany. Maybe they would have seen the criticism coming.

The Reverend Jason McGuire of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms says, "There is certainly a Satanic element to psychic fairs and to the occult and to new age religion."

The state Office of General Services, however, says the second annual Psychic Fair and Halloween Festival is just entertainment. Psychics, astrologers, mediums and tarot card readers will be on hand October 29th at the Empire State Plaza's concourse, where thousands of state workers pass daily.

McGuire says holding the event there violates separation of church and state.

A spokesman for the Catholic conference adds that what seems harmless can lead "to becoming involved with Satanic elements."
