Pittsburgh Churches Host Presbyterians from Malawi

PITTSBURGH - Faced with years of declining membership, some Presbyterian congregations in Pittsburgh have flown in 26 African Presbyterians to help locals keep the faith.

While the Presbyterian Church USA struggles over moral and doctrinal issues, its sister denomination in Malawi has seen consistent growth.

An organizer of the Africans' visit told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, "They are clearly doing something right, because their churches are growing by leaps and bounds, whereas ours are shrinking."

Thirty-nine Pittsburgh-area churches are part of the exchange program with the Synod of Blantyre, which runs 430 Presbyterian churches and another 600 small prayer houses in Malawi.
