Obama, the Economy and Faith
September 24, 2008
When it comes to faith talk this election cycle, Barack Obama’s campaign has gone out of their way to tie in faith to nearly every public policy issue. He’ getting some help from some political and faithful friends.
The Matthew 25 Network is a political action committee that supports Barack Obama for president but has a broader goal of highlighting how the Gospel calls for caring for our neighbor.
They are now up with a radio ad in the key battleground state of Ohio that ties Barack Obama’s faith in with today’s economic mess. Listen to it here:
The ad is up in Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Marion, Mt. Vernon, Findlay and will be up in Columbus, and Dayton. It is playing on both Christian contemporary music stations and some easy listening and country stations.
This faith and economics message brings up a larger point. When the Obama campaign does its religious outreach, they come at it in a non traditional way. In the past, anytime faith was mentioned then abortion and gay marriage topics were not too far behind. Obviously, the Obama campaign and his supporters don’t want to get bogged down on what they consider “hot button wedge issues”. They believe that someone’s faith can touch a myriad of other issues and that’s been the strategy since day one.
What say you?
