Bush is Urged to Demand End to Religious Violence in India

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom says President Bush should urge India's leader to stop Hindu radicals from attacking Christians.

The Reverend Richard Land, a commissioner and Southern Baptist leader, says India's state and local police have failed to stop mobs from killing at least 26 Christians and destroying 134 churches.

India's prime minister is to meet with Bush at the White House this Thursday.

Land says Bush should insist that India's federal government protect minority Christians, thousands of whom are hiding in jungles and refugee camps where they've fled for their lives.
