SOME BACKGROUND ON MARK AND ROMA
Mark and Roma have been married since 2007 and collectively have many TV acclaims. Mark was born and raised in England and served in the British Army in the Parachute Regiment. Roma was born and raised in Ireland. Their passion and desire is to create productions that will encourage, uplift, and awaken another generation to the Bible. Knowing that in today’s culture this is a controversial subject, they still believe, “you have to step out there,” and while they are not trying to be experts when it comes to the bible, there is a message to get across. According to Mark, they want their work to “speak to all generations, genders and faiths.”
A.D. THE BIBLE CONTINUES
NBC calls A.D. The Bible Continues “an uplifting spiritual journey through the later chapters of biblical history.” The series is a continuation of the Mark and Roma’s previous project, title The Bible which concluded at the depiction of the historical death of Christ. The series follows the events after the Crucifixion.
The main theme explored in the series is the impact of Christ’s death on his mother, his disciples, and religious and political leaders of the time. After Christ’s death, his disciples had the task of sharing the gospel throughout the world, even in a context of political turmoil. The series takes viewers through events such as the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the trials, imprisonments and persecution faced by the disciples, and miracles experienced throughout.
Mark and Roma took great care in choosing who would play the role of Jesus in the series (Juan Pablo Di Pace). Other notable characters include: Peter (Adam Levy) Temple authorities led by High Priest Caiaphas (Richard Coyle), Governor Pontius Pilate (Vincent Regan), John (Babou Alieu Ceesay), Mary Magdalene (Chipo Chung)
THE BIBLE
In 2013, The History Channel launched The Bible. The series consistently garnered over 10 million viewers. Roma has been quoted saying that she has loved Jesus all her life, and that this project is from a place of passion for them both. Roma’s mother had her family watch
The Ten Commandments every Easter and she loved it. With the passage of time, Roma and Mark realized the original movie had become “dated”and noticed it did not hold the attention of their children when they watched it. So, they decided to produce a series that would bring an engaging and energetic presentation. While having to size down some of the stories, and due to lack of time leaving some out, they said they did “take some dramatic license in production covering Genesis to Revelation.” The development of the series, and especially casting, was faithfully covered in prayer.
